For the upcoming season of the International German Superbike Championship (IDM), the alpha Racing-Van Zon-BMW Team nominates three riders who are hunting for points with the BMW S 1000 RR. With his rider line-up, Team boss Werner Daemen sets a clear sign in direction of defending the IDM title.
After Markus Reiterberger and Jan Bühn are already presented as figureheads for the Superstock 1000 European Championship, the alpha Racing-Van Zon-BMW Team lined up for the IDM with three riders. With Julian Puffe (GER), Illia Mykhalchyk (UKR) and Christof Höfer (GER) Werner Daemen sends three BMW S 1000 RR into the races.
The 22-year-old Julian Puffe (GER) from Schleiz in Thuringia has competed in the Stocksport European Championship in recent years and rode a BMW S 1000 RR in the Italian Althea MF84 Team in 2017. Beside IDM Superbike 1000, Puffe will also be competing in the World Endurance Championship in the coming season.
Ukrainian Illia Mykhalchyk also joins IDM from the Stocksport European Championship into the alpha Racing-Van Zon-BMW Team. The 21-year-old impressed not least with a strong second place in the season finale of the STK1000 race in Jerez (ESP) – directly behind race winner Markus Reiterberger. With the BMW S 1000 RR Mykhalchyk gets a new bike, with which he will get to know some new racetracks in 2018.
Daemen completes his team for the 2018 season with Christof Höfer (GER). The 27-year-old from Reiskirchen won the 2017 German Suzuki GSX-R 1000 brand cup and can already look back on first experiences in the FIM Endurance World Championship.
Werner Daemen | General Manager alpha Racing-Van Zon-BMW:
„2018 is a new start for us. We will step up into the Superstock 1000 European Championship and also will continue in the Superbike 1000. With alpha Racing, Van Zon, BMW Motorrad and our other partners, we have a strong foundation to play a significant role in both series in the future. Of course we want to fight for the title again with our three riders in the IDM Superbike 1000 – that’s our goal. I am sure that we have a strong set-up to be consistently on the podium.
I’m glad that Christof Höfer took the opportunity to ride for our team. He has shown with strong will in recent years that he can evolve and I am sure he will show his potential in the IDM Superbike category as well.
Julian Puffe has already gained international experience and will certainly surprise us in the IDM. I think he can do more than he could show on the track in recent years.
Illia Mykhalchyk is – like me – a racer from a small motorsport-country who hast o work very hard to ride on an international level. I’ve been following his career for a long time and he really impressed me with his performances in his Supersport and Superstock 1000 seasons. I am very happy that I´ve had the chance to sign him up for our IDM project and I am curious what he will achieve on our bike.“
„In the 2018 season, I really wanted to find a team with whom I could do a great sporting leap – that’s what I did. I’m really happy to race in the IDM and finally return to my home track, the Schleizer Dreieck. My goal is regularly to fight for podiums and to develop my sporting skills. I am sure that I have found one of the best teams for my ambitions.“
„Riding for the alpha Raing-Van Zon-BMW Team is a great opportunity for me. I have been following the team for a long time and have seen how they work for Markus Reiterberger to make him fast on the track. This is impressive. The move into the IDM is very easy for me, because I think that the Top5 riders in the IDM are as strong as the Top5 riders of the European Championship. I’m looking forward to riding the BMW S 1000 RR and I want to be at the top starting from the the first race.“
„I am more than happy about the commitment into the alpha Racing Van Zon BMW Team. After all my efforts of the recent years, I can now call myself a rider in the official BMW Motorrad Customer Sports Team in IDM Superbike 1000 – one of the best racing series in Europe. I am highly motivated and committed to doing my best in the season. I’m looking forward to this new challenge.“
