The long-awaited calendar for the IDM – International German Championship – 2020 was announced two days ago. And you can hardly believe it, but it is only six weeks until the EGS-alpha-Van Zon-BMW team and the entire IDM paddock are allowed to go back into action.

Four events will take place with exclusion from the public. The season 2020 starts on August 14th to 16th at the TT Circuit in Assen, Netherlands. “This year, the IDM is the only motorcycle racing series that is a guest on this traditional course,” says series coordinator Normann Broy.

The Corona pandemic put a spanner in the works for the Motor Presse Stuttgart event team, which manages the series, and in the end only four of the originally planned nine events were left, but at least! With the right hygiene concept, the series was allowed to continue planning.

Fortunately, the return of the series to the legendary Sachsenring circuit remains part of the calendar and so the IDM will be a guest on the traditional racetrack in Hohenstein-Ernstthal on September 7th and 8th. From there the journey directly continues to the Lausitzring on September 11th and 12th, about an hour and a half away from the Sachsenring circuit, for the third and penultimate event of the season. After a two-week break, the IDM paddock will meet again at the Hockenheimring for the season finale from September 25th to 27th.

Unfortunately, after more than three and a half months of involuntary break, the IDM must take place in front of empty ranks. Thanks to the support of the sponsors, live streams on the Internet and a print special supplement in the magazines PS and MOTORRAD are planned for the many eager fans.

After many event cancellations and juggling with countless new calendar designs, Broy and his team have achieved a small masterpiece. “In between, I had almost given up hope. But we didn’t give up and thanks to the support of the racetrack operators, we can now present a small but fine IDM calendar. ”

Werner Daemen, the manager of the team that merged with EGS-Moto-Racing at the end of last year, is also happy that the IDM is allowed to race again this year. “We are really delighted that we are finally starting to work together, albeit without any spectators,” says Daemen. “The motorcycles, trucks and everything are prepared. Our sponsors are waiting for Ilya, Vladimir and Tim to push the BMW S 1000 RR to its limits and they are finally allowed to do that, ”added the Belgian.
