The German Champion of the International German Championship (IDM) 2019, Ilya Mikhalchik, took part in a tyre test for the official tyre supplier of the BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team – Dunlop, within the Spanisch Superbike championship in Jerez de la Frontera last weekend. The 23-years-old Ukrainian won both of the Open 1000 class valuations and he finished the overall standings in fourth place at Race one and in seventh position at Race two.
Within this event, at which also Team Manager Werner Daemen was present at the Andalusian Racetrack, the opportunity was used to do things properly for the 2020 IDM season. Ilya Mikhalchik and Werner Daemen agreed to spend another season together in the BMW-Team of the Belgian, inside the German championship.
Werner Daemen, Team Manager: „I am really happy that we keep Ilya. 2019 he showed for the second time that he is riding on a top level and after 2018 he got us the IDM-title again this season. I am proud he decided to stay with us. He proved this year with the new BMW S 1000 RR what he is capable of achieving. He had some competitors in Hockenheim at the season finale that gave him that extra motivation for 2020. I am looking forward what Ilya will do next season and I am happy that we will keep him in our team for another year, in IDM as well as in EWC.“
Ilya Mikhalchik: „I am really happy that I can continue the work with my team. I can trust them all with closed eyes here and this is very important for me to work in a top team. It will be my third season in this team and I hope of more to follow. The championship gets more and more interesting, year by year. New racetracks being added, the bike is always new. I am continuously learning and this is very important to me. I will prepare for the upcoming season as good as possible throughout this winter break and I will try to defend the title and bring the team up to the top again next year.“
