Van Zon-Remeha-BMW Team accomplished a succsessful Wildcard event with Danny De Boer in the Superstock 1000 category. The dutchman achieved a sensational fourth place in the highly competitive SST lineup. Remarkable – it was his first race event with the new S 1000 Superstock bike and the Van Zon-Remeha-BMW team. Great season opener for the 27 year-old Dutchman.

Danny already gained strong confidence with the BMW S 1000 RR in the free practice sessions on friday. In his first practice the track was in wet conditions, so Danny and his team worked on a basis setting, finishing FP1 with position 10 on the 4,5 km long track. Danny was able to improve within the second free practice, due to an adjustment on the setting. Danny had a good feeling for the bike and surprised with a P3 combined result after the two free practice sessions.

Saturday startet with a hectic and difficult qualifying, because Dannys fastest lap was interrupted by a red flag signal and on which he had to cancel his lap immediately. Therefore he wasn ́t able to make use of his last brand new set of Pirelli tyres. After restarting the session, he only had six minutes left to achieve the best possible laptime on used tyres to qualify for the race grid. With a 1’37.232 min laptime, Danny qualified with a personal best laptime in Assen on P4 into the second starting grid row. An amazing performance by Danny and his technical crew on their first race weekend of the season.

After a solid warm-up session on Sunday in dry conditions, Danny started not very satisfied into the race and lost some positions in the very beginning of the first lap. But he compensated with a very good first lap due to a very aggressive riding style. After a serious collision between several riders – also involved the reigning German Superbike Champion Marvin Fritz – the race had to be restarted after just one lap. Then, Danny picked a much better start and immediately passed Roberto Tamburini for the third position and was able to fight with the leading group. He lost his position to Marino in the third lap of the restarted race, but held this position salfely. Razgatlioglu, Rinaldi, Marino and De Boer pushed themselves during the whole race and Danny was finally rewarded with a P4 result in the very challenging field of the Superstock 1000 European Championship. The Van Zon- Remeha-BMW squad achieved the best BMW Motorrad result in the Dutch World Superbike round in Assen and with only one race in 2017, Danny De Boer is now ranked 8th in the overall SST 1000 rankings.

Danny De Boer:
„I was very happy to have a good feeling for the bike so early. After the first free practice we adjusted the settings and after that I had the feeling that it was more „my bike“. Even if it was only my first race of the season. The saturday was unbelievable – the qualifying was hectic and even though I achieved a personal best with a BMW stock bike on used Pirelli tyres. I think we did a good job in the race, too. I searched for the feeling to push hard and the team provided me with the best bike. So I have to thank my team for doing an amazing job during the whole weekend. There are really good riders with really good teams in the superstock championship and we managed it quite well to be competitive. To start a season with a new bike, in a new team like this makes me really confident for the upcoming IDM championship.
Of course the horrible crash of Marvin Fritz overshadowed the race and I am very happy he has no serious inuries and will hopefully be back on the bike very soon.“
